The most ambitious group themed we could possible pic is Tim Burton films. Not only did I make Wonka, Oogie Boogie, but also Edward Scissorhands. It was a very busy year making costumes.
The Wonka coat is a cranberry corduroy from a Simplicity frock coat pattern. The hat and glasses were purchased off Amazon. The brioche is handcrafted by Sith Camaro.
Oogie Boogie is burlap, black felt, and plastic bugs. The head is constructed from a baseball hat, and shaped with Mod Podge. I sprayed Glowz in the Dark paint on the burlap and the costume lit up green on the Buzz Light Year ride. / Later, this costume gets remade v2.0, and I’ll share a separate tutorial.
Edward Scissorhands took the longest to create. My general sewing machine couldn’t handle all the thick layers, so I ended up mainly sewing this costume by hand. Lots of the parts were leather, and by the time October rolled around, my fingers were looking like John Doe. All the material was purchased second hand at Good-Will, cut into pieces, and hand-sewn into place. / Many years down the road, the pleather deteriorates and Edward gets repurposed as three Aliens for the Fringe play, Shakespeare’s Aliens.
